Wall panel, tablet or kiosk: how to run the whole home from one place
How the same interface works on a wall panel, a tablet, a phone and a computer — and why controlling the whole home from one screen beats ten separate apps.
The rules and modes in HoumeOS live on the server, and the screen is only a window onto them. That is why one and the same interface works on a wall panel, a tablet, a phone and a computer — without every device demanding its own app.
One interface, every screen
- A wall panel by the entrance — quick access to modes and statuses as you walk past.
- A tablet in the kitchen or living room — the full dashboard for the whole home.
- Phone and computer — the same view wherever you are, if access is permitted.
- Kiosk mode — for entrance halls, shared areas and demonstrations.
What the dashboard shows
- Energy — production, battery, consumption and grid at a glance.
- Climate — temperature room by room and the current mode.
- Security — alarm and zone states together with hazard signals.
- Modes — morning, evening and holiday with one touch, as described in the home scenarios.
Why local matters for the screens too
The wall panel and the dashboards pull data from the local server, not from a cloud. That is why the interface keeps working when the internet is down — a smart home without cloud is a behaviour in HoumeOS, not a slogan. Remote access is opt-in, through a protected tunnel.
Large, readable controls
The interface uses big touch targets, light and dark themes and a clear hierarchy — so it works one-handed and from a distance. The same screen appears on a 10-inch tablet and on the phone in your pocket, without you having to learn it twice.
What to expect
You do not need to replace your devices to get a single screen — the connection runs through a common protocol layer. The specific panels depend on the property, but the principle is one: one brain, many screens, and none of them critical to the way the rules run.
