Data you can trust, and a history that is never lost
Better an empty screen than one that shows yesterday as if it were now. HoumeOS does not cache device numbers, marks stale values, and histories are kept on the server — surviving a restart and a power failure.
A smart home makes decisions based on numbers. If the numbers are stale or lost, the decision is wrong. That is why two things are fundamental: trusting what you see now, and not losing what has already happened.
Better an empty screen than a lying one
The rule is simple: better an empty screen than one that shows yesterday as if it were now. HoumeOS does not cache the data from the devices. When the link to a device drops, the interface clearly marks stale values as stale, instead of presenting them as live. When the link returns, the screen recovers on its own.
This matters especially in monitoring a solar system, where a "frozen" number for production or grid flow would lead to a wrong energy distribution.
An offline shell, with no lying numbers
When the internet drops, the kiosk starts the interface from cache — the screens open, the navigation works. But the device numbers are never cached. The difference is essential: the interface is static and can come from cache; the telemetry must be fresh or absent.
A history that survives a crash
The data is kept on the server in the local network, not on the tablet or the phone. It survives a restart and a sudden power cut — the write is atomic. The specific horizons the platform keeps today:
- 7 days of raw samples — full detail for the recent past;
- 31 days of the event log — what happened when and why;
- 13 months of aggregated data — for seasonal comparisons and yearly reports.
From there come the charts and reports by day, week, month and year.
Why locally, and not in a cloud
The histories, profiles and telemetry never leave the LAN. There is no cloud account that is simultaneously a doorway and a single point of failure. More on the architecture in What is a Local-First smart home.
What this means for you
- You trust the screen — what is fresh is fresh, what is stale is marked.
- You do not lose data — a power cut does not erase months of history.
- You have a basis for decisions — real consumption reports, not a feeling.
